Using Collagen for 14 Days
Have you heard that collagen is all the hype these days?
I work at a supplement store on the weekends and every time I work, someone comes in wanting to try collagen peptides powder. Curiosity got the better of me because this actually seemed like a supplement that would produce visible results. So I got a 14 day sample pack of collagen peptides and went to work researching why and how it should work.
Collagen is a protein that is in charge of your skins elasticity it helps protect your organs, and provides structure to joints and tendons.
So recently people have started taking collagen orally to try and help improve their skin, help with their digestion and overall have a more "glowing appearance" (according to VitalProteins.com). Sounds great right? I've noticed the fine lines around my eyes and on my forehead, and I have noticed that the more stressed I am, the more lines appear.
I'm 25 years old, and figure, why not give it a try and stick with it for two weeks to see if I see any visual changes? This had to be a controlled experiment though. Meaning, I had to set constants.
For the constants;
-I had to take 1 scoop of collagen peptides per day mixed into whatever I was eating or drinking for breakfast (usually Greek Yogurt or my BCAAs).
-I had to stick with my preset skin care routine at night. Meaning I wasn't going to change up the products I was using or start using a lot of face masks.
-I wasn't going to change my current diet too much. I would still eat foods and drink the same things in the same amount. In other words, not drink more than 2 gallons of water or stop drinking pop.
I did this so that I could see how the product worked with my life without giving it too much additional with other products.
This is the collagen peptides I used during this last two weeks.
And so we have a beginning point, here is a photo of me without makeup.
I was very concerned with if there was going to be any sort of flavor or textural difference when it was added to things.
On the first day, I decided to just put a scoop into my greek yogurt, it gave me an extra 10g of protein for the day. The peptides mixed right in.
The third day, I put it in my BCAAs and I could not even tell I put anything additional in there.
On the 9th day, I made a fruit, protein smoothie with it and it was great.
On the last day, I have to say that I really like the results from taking collagen consistently.
There was a few things that I noticed;
1) My skin did seem to have a bit of a smoother glow to it.
2) Any blemishes I got seemed to go away quicker.
I did not notice any help with digestion or any thing different with my nails or hair.
Here is an after picture for you all :)
I would definitely recommend using collagen peptides consistently! Some people have taken it for a few days and then stopped because they didn't see any results. But you have to give it time.
Could it have been a placebo? Sure. Either way, I saw results and I am happy.
