The Day I Tried...
Being a teacher in training, I'm very conscious about my wardrobe. Being big chested, I'm very conscious of how things fit and what is showing. Being almost 6 feet tall, I'm very conscious of how short things are.
I typically dress (when at home) in yoga pants, big shirts and a hat. At work, I'm in jeans and a nice shirt or a maxi dress and typically I don't stray too much from that.
Have you heard of the hashtag, #croptopsforeverybodytype?
I used to think that I'd never be able to wear one until I had a flat stomach, absolutely no stomach jiggle and abs that don't quit. But look at this!
Every body type is able to pull off a crop top if done well.
About a year ago, I was shopping with my big sister, A, and came across a crop top that I just loved. For some reason, I took it in my hand and tried it on. I knew rationally that I wouldn't be able to wear it a lot. It was very revealing so it wouldn't be in my work wardrobe, it wouldn't be in my everyday wardrobe either. Ladies, you'll understand this- but sometimes you just have to get something even if you know it will just sit in your closet until the right time. I took that shirt and went right up to the register and handed over the money for it. My sister asked me where I was going to wear it. "I have no idea. But I like it." And we walked out.
Fast forward a year, crop tops were even more popular than they were a year ago. I follow a really inspirational girl on Instagram who is super real and put a post up about how it wasn't fair that only 'girls in supermodel shape' were allowed to wear crop tops. Almost all her pictures are of her in a crop top-body standards be damned.
I read one of her posts and thought, "You know, I make sure I'm healthy. I should be proud of my body." Later that night, T and I were going out to dinner with some friends of ours that I consider family and thought, "Why not?" So I put on that crop top and a pencil skirt and didn't look back. In fact, I felt great. I felt confident and beautiful. This picture is such a big moment for me because I challenged myself and it paid off.
